Bottlenose dolphins are well known as the intelligent and charismatic stars of many aquarium shows. Their curved mouths give the appearance of a friendly, permanent smile, and they can be trained to perform complex tricks. They are usually seen in smaller pods or groups of less than 10 individuals. Intelligent and high up on the oceanic food chain, dolphins are found to engage in playful activities including bow riding where they surf in front of a boat or even a whale’s bow wave. With C Hawk we frequently see dolphins on our excursions and love to educate our guests on their important role in Hawaii. While we have been able to swim around or interact with dolphins closely, recent changes in law require us to observe dolphins from a distance.
